2017 Navutu Stars Mission Report

We continue to be eternally grateful to Madda, Giovanna and Freddie, the owners of Navutu Stars, who continue to gift the entire resort to our teams for the duration of our mission . For over a decade, we have been guided by their altruistic spirit to provide medical and dental care to Navutu’s community, the very gracious rural Fijians of the Yasawas   You are exemplary of supporting the global community of humanity.   We all are enriched and inspired by your generosity.

Our accomplishments:

  • 6 full days of medical and dental clinics
  • 9 dental volunteers completed the following:

50 partial and full prosthetics were built in the field and delivered to patients

127 restorations performed

249 extractions

  • 8 medical volunteers completed the following:

Traveled by boat to 10 different village sites and ran clinics

Saw and treated 920 patients

Identified 15 surgical referrals for our surgical teams in May at Taveuni Hospital

Our group of 17 volunteers worked impressive hours, bearing the summer heat in the operatories and traveling on open punts to neighboring villages. And, they paid to do this!!

We were grateful to work in partnership with our Fijian volunteers, Dan, Kikau, Lelly, Tima and Torika who so generously gave of their time and guided us through language issues and scheduling. And to Colleen Buchanon, manager of Navutu, your coordination and troubleshooting…invaluable!

On behalf of the people whose pain you eased and the smiles that you restored, vinaka vakalevu
