Our mission is to support the medical and dental systems in the South Pacific. In operation since 2001, we have treated more than 90,000 patients.
Taveuni Hospital, General Surgery —May 5-May 14, 2017
A Hand surgeon will offer reconstructive surgery to the hand which would include resetting of finger fractures and hand fractures. Fused fingers can be repaired. Chronic infections can be addressed and tendon contractures can be repaired. Each day the team will work at the hospital in the operating theater performing surgeries on pre-screened patients. Five days of surgery and Sundays are at leisure to explore the island.
We are soliciting anesthesiologists and recovery nurses and non-medical screeners for this team.
The hospital is a fully functioning, electrified (daylight hours only) 30 bed inpatient hospital with two resident physicians who live on site. There are childrens, mens, womens and obstetrics wards on site with resident nurses. A very nice operating theater is on site together with a labor and delivery room. There is also a pharmacist who often has a full stock of medications. We maintain our own supply of medication and surgical supplies on site.
We need: Urologist, Podiatrist, Hand surgeon, scrubs, circulating nurses, pre and post op nurses and recovery room nurses. Non-medical volunteers would screen patients and complete intake forms.
Accommodations will be at AROHA RESORT www.arohataveuni.com . Aroha is a small, family-owned venue with a pool, on the water and close to the hospital.

Taveuni Island is part of the Northern Lau group and offers many stellar activities to fill your leisure allocation. There is great diving and snorkeling, hiking on the Lavena Coastal trail and trekking up to the Bouma Waterfalls. The island is known as “the garden island” where Indians and indigenous Fijians all peacefully co-exist in this verdant, rural paradise.
We are looking forward to our 15th very productive year serving the basic medical needs of rural Fijians. Come join us! For those of you who haven’t been on our trips, please visit our web page at www.Lolomafoundation.org to learn more about our last trip. We work hard, always allowing time to take in the physical beauty and culture of this amazing country.
Most of our volunteers extend their stay in Fiji. It is a magnificent country that is worth seeing! Contact us and we can help you with ideas as to where to stay. You will need to decide on your extension by November 1st so that your airline tickets can be appropriately purchased.
