Board member Linda Kwasny was enthusiastic stating, "The genorsity of our guests and donors allows us to continue to fund our work in the South Pacific. We feel very confident that we can run all three volunteer missions, send over 1000 loaded backpacks, enhance our scholarship fund, provide toothbrushes for all three medical/dental missions, purchase the 5 pages of medical supplies that we need to buy AND pay for container shipment. We are grateful to each of you for enabling the realization of our 2012 goals. "
On January 20, 2011, 32 of our finest medical practioners and volunteersl departed for the Fiji Medical mission at Natuvu Creek on Vanua Levu, the second largest island in Fiji.
Our volunteer team spent ten days working at providing free medical care to the large, rural Fijian community in the north of Fiji.
The team consisted of:
Five dentists who will perform general dentistry
Two optometrists who dispensed glasses, readers and sun glasses
An orthopedic surgeon performed reconstructive surgery
A plastic surgeon who performed reconstructive surgery
A cataract surgeon who performed cataract surgery
A general medical team consisting of two women's specialists, a pediatrician and an internist who conducted daily clinics.
On each trip our group brings over $2 million dollars worth of donated medical supplies, corrective lenses, sunglasses, and tooth care products into the country. Gore, Ethicon, Abbott Point of Service, Sonosite, ConMed, Direct Relief International, Americares, Dioptics, Professional Hospital Supply and MAP International donate supplies to us.
